History of France
A country of contrasts, France has something for everyone. As one of the key European economies, France is also an important commercial and trading centre. It is a modern industrial country whose key industries include oil refining, making steel, agriculture, luxury goods and motor manufacturing. French is an influential European language and is spoken by 59 million people in France alone. Yet it is the romance of the country that enthrals so many of us, with it's huge mosaic of history, it's wide and varied landscapes and a promise of gastronomic heaven under cloudless skies.
