Yes.  If you're looking for a demanding French Alevel revision course in Bordeaux, staying with local French hosts. It's perfect for A'level students looking to prepare prior to their AS or A2 year ~ as it's aimed solely at A'level, IB, Abitur, Matura etc students across Europe.    Past students have really enjoyed living in the beautiful city of Bordeaux.  It is only open to older teenagers preparing for French A'level exams. It's demanding, but popular ~ so early reservations are advised!

College Description
The Bordeaux French language school has an excellent academic record and is open all year as a language college for students aged 16yrs+. Established in 1992, the school is located in a 19th century town house, near one of the most prestigious avenues in the city. It is just 2 minutes walk away from the heart of the town. Situated on 3 floors, the French language college has 15 good sized classrooms, a self study room and a student lounge that leads to a sheltered garden and provides a welcoming and relaxed study environment.

Language students can follow a one week French A level revision course, in this amazing city. The course is appropriate for teenagers who are independent, and mature enough not to require constant direction from group leaders.

Programme details
The course is academically demanding, and aimed at older teenagers.  The French language college staff are aware that the students want to make the most of their time in Bordeaux and will do all they can to help students enjoy their French experience, both in and outside the classroom.

~ 09.15hrs to 12.45hrs : Monday to Friday &
~ 14.00hrs to 15.30hrs : Tuesday & Thursday

A short term French language course aimed at A'level students (and European students studying for A'level exam equivalents) who need to build on current skills during an immersion course in France over the holidays.  This is an intensive course in small groups to maximise students’ performance. The main objective of the programme is to improve linguistic abilities, whilst concentrating on aspects essential to the 'A' level (or European equivalent) exam in order to make the best use of students’ knowledge. A great deal of emphasis is placed on oral participation through personal presentations and role-playing.

Course objectives and methodology
~ to prepare for the A-LEVEL French examination
~ to train for specific examinations (listening activities, presenting a theme, writing a letter, narrative ~ or summary, etc.)
~ to practice linguistic skills (written expression, “essay planning”, oral / written comprehension, oral / interactive communication)
~ to revise grammar and build vocabulary
~ communicative methods, role play and use of real documents

Groups
Single-level groups ensure easy participation and a true group dynamic as well as individual attention from the teacher

Activities
A range of activities are offered at extra cost. Students are advised of the options offered each week once in France via a notice board in the college. Various excursions are on offer including; guided city excursions, French films at the college and bowling nights.

Supervision
Students are supervised by state qualified instructors for any sporting activities and by a member of college staff for cultural outings

Location
Situated in the south west of France, Bordeaux, lies close to the Atlantic seaboard and is the capital of the Aquitaine region. It is set on the banks of the river Garonne and is famous for its magnificent wines. Home to some 700,000 people, Bordeaux is a thriving University city with plenty to discover and enjoy, throughout the year. It has an average winter temperature of 8oc and in the summer can reach temperatures of 30oc.

Offered on a single room basis with half-board (breakfast and evening meal) with local hosts.
French hosts live in the residential areas in and around Bordeaux -in houses or apartment buildings just a short bus ride from the college and the centre of Bordeaux. Hosts offer you the chance to share daily French life with native speakers.  They may well have more than two student staying with them.
They will collect you from Bordeaux airport/station by arrangement, free of charge (if at reasonable hour) and take you back at the end of the course.

Going out Permission
Teenagers aged 16/17yrs old will need signed parental permission to be able to go out in the evenings.

Parents must indicate that either:

  • 1/ no permission to go out is given 
  • 2/ students are free to go out up to 11.00pm in the week & 12.30 at the weekend (no alternative curfew can be arranged).

French language students, over 18 years of age are not subject to parental permission rules.
NB: Parents cannot set alternative curfews as the college is unable to police them.

Travel
Arrive: Sunday PM
Depart: Saturday AM

Travel to Bordeaux by plane and then take the host arranged two way transfer to your accommodation.
